Jill Scott is the only daughter from her mom Joyce Scott. She was born in Philadelphia the state of Pennsylvania on the 4th of April, 1972. Being a single girl Scott was also raised through her maternal grandparents. Scott was a student at the Philadelphia High School for Girls when she was a senior, and then she entered Temple University. She completed her secondary education the course of two years while also working. She planned to become a high school English teacher. This dream however, ended up being a short-lived dream when she quit the college after a year of studies and was a teacher's assistant. She began her career as a spoken word artist who performed her own works in live poetry readings. She ultimately joined to Amir Quest love Thompson of The Roots. You Got Me, their joint song, was written by them. In an Roots concert, she made her debut in the spotlight as an artist. Later, she secured collaborations stars such as Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. In the Canada tour for The Broadway musical Rent She gained invaluable performance experience. Also, she was the first signed by Hidden Beach Recordings.
